Green-eyed
they dance till dawn out in the meadows.
mesmerizing: this is the youth itself!
they cry, burrowed secretly in the herbs
and herbs are green-eyed, like they are.
they laugh - like valleys bestrewn by bellflowers
are touched by playful wind that’s passing by!
they disappear without a trace,
with no desire for vengeance in their hearts,
with no one to be sorry for the loss.
they wait - for months and years, wait tirelessly,
even for a century and even more...
they hide from people deep inside themselves
at any sign of deceit in their words.
they know - if they get lost, this will be it.
their faces will be forgotten, and so will they themselves.
while the world will keep dancing recklessly to its old rhythm
with the ancient passion growing charred in its eyes.
that autumn night will stay in memory for its slight bitter taste,
the kind of bitterness that's usual for the freedom and the past not setting free.
and the dew will not dry out on the herbs for long,
resembling someone - someone green-eyed.
